PERSONAL PROGRESS: For New Beginnings last year we gave each YW a charm bracelet with a Book of Mormon charm on it (for the Joseph Smith focus this year). Then told the girls they could earn more charms for their braclets by doing Personal Progress goals. The girls were required to do 2 goals in each area to recieve a charm. If they already had 6 goals in an area done, they could do their project to get the charm. I had 2 younger girls recieve their YW Recognition this year because of this incentive. Our Personal Progress goals overall for the girls have increased greatly this year! We have also given out charms for special occassions throughout the year (ie. camp, temple lessons etc.) My YW have loved the bracelets. Note: It took me a while to get the knack of putting on the charms. We used the smaller split ring. I am now the "expert" at it in our ward. It just took ALOT of practice!! Pam Clark-Soda Springs, ID
IDEA: At our New Begining Program last year, we too gave our YW charm braclets (Kit # 1). We completed the braclets to the personal progress experience and projects they had completed to that time. We used the charms as the project goal, but add beads in the color of the value hung on split rings in between the charms.(One bead for two experiences). We also gave each mother a temple charm on a golden ribbon, to give to her daughter on her wedding day. We also started a program that they receive charms for Book of Mormon reading, rough camp, and charms for each year they are in YW. The girls love it!!! This has increased our YW medallions out of 25 girls 5 have recieved the medallions and 6 or more should receive them next year. These are great incentives. T Walker taylorville, UT
VALUE PROJECT: Don't drive yourself crazy putting on rings and keeping track of who has earned what charm! Find one of your Young Women who love to do this and have her do it for one of her value projects!! Everyone is happy this way.
CELESTIAL UNIVERSITY: This last year in R.S. I instituted a "Celestial University" program and the bracelets are for those who earned Doctorates and the pin is for the sister who earned a Masters. They each got the little graduate girl and a Book of Mormon (for the theology requirement) and then the charm for their "major". We will let them know where to go if they would like a charm for each area they passed off in the program (like I did). Thank you for providing such cute items so inexpensively. Lisa Mortensen, California
ANGEL MORONI: I have used the Angel Moroni to make bookmarks for scriptures.
YOUNG WOMEN ACCOMPLISHMENTS: In our stake, they gave every girl a bracelet with a Book of Mormon charm on it to kick off the them year, "A Great and Marvelous Work." As a ward Young Women's President, I decided to build on the bracelet. Our Young Women were give the chance to earn charms all year long as they achieve certain goals that were tied to the theme and to their Personal Progress. Here are the charms we used:
"BELIEVE" CHARM-- Memorize JSH 1:15-20, “The First Vision.” Pray to know for yourself that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ.(KNOWLEDGE value experience #8)
"ANCHOR" CHARM-- Bear your testimony in Fast and Testimony meeting. Share your feelings about the Restoration and the Prophet Joseph Smith. (INTEGRITY value experience #6)
"PRAYING HANDS" CHARM-- When you finish the Book of Mormon this year, follow the counsel given by Moroni in Moroni 10:3-5. Pray to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon for yourself.(FAITH value project--Read the Book of Mormon)
"COMPASS" CHARM-- You are on the right track! Meet with your leader and complete an outline of a value project you have chosen to complete for presentation at Young Women in Excellence in November. (CHOICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY value experience #5)
"TEMPLE" CHARM-- Attend a Youth Temple Trip this year.(INTEGRITY value experience #1, GOOD WORKS value project--preparing family names for a baptism temple trip)
"FAMILY TREE" CHARM-- Complete a four generation genealogy notebook. 1 Pedigree chart, and 7 family group sheets.(INDIVIDUAL WORTH value experience #5, INDIVIDUAL WORTH value project--Complete a pedigree chart, and compile a family history notebook)
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY" CHARM-- Have a birthday this year!!!
The girls loved earning the charms! It was a special way to reward them for reaching their goals and SO AFFORDABLE! Melissa in Washington
BAPTISM BRACELETS: I am giving each of my granddaughters a Baptism charm bracelet, and each bracelet is unique because it also has a charm that represents that girls personality. And we all know that little girls love jewlery! Hey so do us BIG girls!
YW VALUES: For every month in young womens we have a yong women of the month. This is chosen from those who memorise the value for that month.
YOUNG WOMEN CLASSES: I think there should be a charm for each of the YW classes. a praying girl for the Beehives, open scriptures for MIAMaids, (the Book of Mormon would work too, but it's not quite it.) and there is already a temple, for Laurels.
ACTIVITY/ACHIEVMENT DAYS: When a girl enters our activity/achievement days program she gets a bracelet with one starter charm ('happy birthday'). Each year she can earn one charm per area (one for Developing Talents, one for Learning and Living the Gospel, and one for Serving Others). We pass out the charms at an award night (once per year). Upon graduating a-days she recieves the '13' charm (for memorizing the 13 articles of faith), and the 'faith' charm (for faith in god completion). This is a total of 15 charms on the 7.5 in bracelet - they fit just right. I love these cute charms! Keep up the good work.
MARRIAGE: I would be interested in charms representing marriage - perhaps wedding rings. Also, other Temples.
BUTTERFLY: on charm bracelet
We started using the charms for girls camp - our theme was Pres. Hinckleys 9 bees. We chose one charm for each bee and had a devotional each night on 1 or 2 of them, then handed them out their charms. The girls loved them so much we didn't want to let them go - so we chose charms for each of the YW values. As they complete a section - including the value project, they get that charm. In addition, we give them charms for special occasions - the Book of Mormon when they read it completely, a temple for their first youth temple trip, a new one for each year at camp, and now we are looking for some kind of light to go with our "14 day walk with Christ" - not sure what we'll pick yet. We are going to do a pioneer trek next year and will probably pick the handcart. There are so many ideas! We love the charms! Thank you so much for your helping make all these goals fun for the girls!
YW REWARDS: This year we gave the bracelet and oil lamp charm at New Beginnings as our theme was based on the 10 Virgins. Then throughout the year we have given: the BOM charm for those that completed our annual BOM challenge; the compass charm for those that went to camp; and the handcart charm for those who went on the Trek. The last charm will be the temple charm and will be given at our YWIE program. It's been so fun.
